Why does AEO matter now?

Because a growing share of searches end without a click, which makes ranking worth less than it used to be. Pew Research Center analyzed the browsing behaviour of 900 U.S. adults across 68,879 Google searches. When an AI summary appeared, users clicked a traditional search result in 8% of visits, compared with 15% of visits with no summary. Replace vague words with specific ones — "reduces editing time from three hours to twenty minutes" survives extraction; "saves time" does not. Use absolute dates, because a passage stripped of context cannot resolve "last month."

Choose formats models prefer to quote. Ranked comparison content dominates the citation pool. Evertune's review of roughly 25,000 of the most-cited URLs found 63% of nearly 400 million citations pointed to listicles, and between 71% and 86% of those were ranked rather than unordered lists.

Earn description on other people's pages.
